Sarah "Ihsan" Wardell - Artist, Graphic Designer (Ihsan@awp.tc or SarahWardell.com)

I consider myself a painter of plein air landscapes, still lifes, and figures in the American Impressionist tradition. I am interested in exploring color and light, and work mostly with a palette knife. I particularly enjoy painting sunsets. Working outside, surrounded by light reflecting from the sky on the landscape is exciting and inspiring. I'll usually take several small masonite boards with me and paint until I can't see anymore, ending up with a progression of the sunset portrayed in a way that no photograph could.

I've studied under talented impressionists John Ebersberger and Abigail McBride, as well as Cedric and Joanette Egeli, nationally known portrait painters. I graduated with a BA in Art and Graphic Design from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. Currently I live and work in the Annapolis, MD area. I've also spent some time each summer of the last four years in Provincetown, MA.
